Bhuminder Singh

Dr. Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Cell & Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Singh lab studies epithelia in normal and diseased states, like cancer, with a focus on key signaling events via the EGF receptor family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Our research interests can be divided into two broad areas: 1) trafficking of EGFR ligands in polarized epithelial cells and 2) resistance to EGFR-directed therapies in colorectal cancer. Majority of our studies are conducted in 3D environment that mimic in vivo condition better than plastic cultures where we use cell lines and normal and patient-derived tumor organoids (with stromal, immune, or microbial components). Using these methods and resources we test mechanism-based hypotheses of epithelial homeostasis, colorectal cancer development, and drug resistance.
